Graduated the Faculty of Psychology and Doctoral Studies at Babeş Bolyai University in Cluj; he began his career as a teacher for children with hearing impairments, continued as a psychologist for the pilots of the national aerobatics group and then, until 1990, as a psychologist in the team assessing flight skills for all air navigation employees in Romania. After 1990 he became a researcher at the Institute of Psychology of the Romanian Academy (until 1998) and began, in parallel, to work in the media - he is founding member of the political satire publication Caţavencu Academy, but also published in Truth, Old Dilemma, Freedom and produced radio and television shows. Since 1993 he co-founded a non-profit, non-governmental organization – Cultural Settlement Caţavencu Academy; the team of activists in the organization founded the association ActiveWatch dedicated to promoting free and responsible expression in the public interest. He taught, as an associate professor, at the faculties of journalism, political science and education sciences at the University of Bucharest, the National School of Political and Administrative Sciences, Babeş Bolyai University Cluj Napoca.

He coordinated the publication of several specialized volumes, published 20 articles in academic journals and over 3000 articles in the press.

Since 2021 he is Member of the National Audiovisual Council.

1993 - May 2021 President of ActiveWatch (formerly the Press Monitoring Agency “Caţavencu Academy”) - human rights organization that advocates for free communication, in the public interest. The organization is a partner for Romania of the international organization Reporters Without Borders and is a member of the largest global network working for freedom of expression, IFEX.
